Fluently bilingual, Guy is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in intellectual property law (patent, trademark, and copyright). Guy was called to the Bar in 1970 and was registered as a trademark agent in 1971. He handles the application for and enforcement of trademarks, patents, copyright, and industrial designs. Guy acts as an arbitrator and as a mediator.
Guy is a past President of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and a former Chair of the National Section on Intellectual Property for the Canadian Bar Association. He was the first Chair of the Bench and Bar Committee of the Canadian Bar Association and the Federal Court of Canada. He is also a member of The Advocates’ Society of Ontario and the International Trademark Association. Guy is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute's Alternative Dispute Resolution Roster. He was Chair of its Arbitration/Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee. Guys also was a member of various committees of the International Trademark Association dealing with arbitration and mediation matters. Guy has written and spoken extensively on many intellectual property topics to North American and European intellectual property organizations.
An active member of the community, Guy is a former Chair of the Foundation of the Ottawa General Hospital and of the Police Services Board of the City of Gloucester.
